What is Numbers to words (Spanish)?
This tool writes any amount out in Spanish words, as is done on checks, invoices, receipts or contracts in Spain. For example, 1.200,50 becomes “mil doscientos euros con cincuenta céntimos”.
The output is always in Spanish. You can choose the euro format or plain number format (with “coma” for decimals), and whether you want it in lowercase, with an initial capital or all in capitals.
How to use it
- Enter the number, with a decimal point or comma.
- Choose the format: “Euros” or “Number”.
- Select the capitalization: lowercase, first letter or UPPERCASE.
- Copy the amount in Spanish words in one click.
Advantages
- Follows the rules of the RAE (Royal Spanish Academy): veintiún euros, quinientos, un millón de euros.
- Euro mode with rounding to the cent for checks and invoices.
- Supports numbers of up to 30 digits and negatives.
- Free, no sign-up and no ads.
Technical details
The number is processed as an arbitrary-precision integer (BigInt) in groups of six digits using the Spanish long scale: millón (10^6), billón (10^12), trillón (10^18) and cuatrillón (10^24), up to 30 integer digits. It applies the shortening of “uno” before nouns and before “mil” or “millones” (veintiún, un millón, cuarenta y un mil), uses “cien” versus “ciento”, writes 16 to 29 as a single word (dieciséis, veintidós) and adds the preposition “de” when the amount ends in exact millions (un millón de euros). In euro mode it rounds to the cent and adds “con … céntimos”; in number mode it reads the decimals after “coma”, keeping leading zeros (up to 12 decimals). It understands formats such as 1.234,56, 1234.56 or 1 000 000.
Frequently asked questions
How do you write €1,200.50 in Spanish words?
Mil doscientos euros con cincuenta céntimos.
Is it “veintiún euros” or “veintiuno euros”?
Veintiún euros. Before a masculine noun, “uno” is shortened to “un”, and in the twenties it takes an accent: veintiún.
How do you write one million euros in Spanish?
“Un millón de euros”, with the preposition “de” because the amount ends in exact millions. By contrast, you write “un millón doscientos mil euros”.
How are amounts written on a Spanish check?
The amount is written in words, usually with an initial capital or all in capitals, stating euros and cents. Use “Euros” mode and the capitalization option you prefer.
What is a “billón” in Spain?
In Spain a billón is a million million (10^12), not a thousand million as in English. The tool uses this long scale.
