Advantages

Technical details

The total with tip is bill × (1 + tip / 100), and the exact amount per person is that total divided by the number of diners (1 to 100). If rounding is chosen, the amount per person is first rounded to the cent and then up to the chosen multiple (€0.10, €0.50, €1 or €5) using a mathematical ceiling, so the amount collected is never less than the total. The leftover is (amount per person × people) − total with tip. The split is equal; it doesn't account for different orders per person.
