What is Extract text (OCR)?
OCR (optical character recognition) reads the text that appears in an image and turns it into text you can copy, edit or search. It is very useful with photos of documents, screenshots, receipts or notes.
You choose the language of the text, add one or more images and in a few seconds all the text is ready to paste wherever you want. Each image shows a confidence indicator so you know whether it is worth reviewing.
How to use it
- Choose the language of the text: Spanish, English or both.
- Drag in one or more images with text, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
- Click “Extract text” and wait for it to finish.
- Check the confidence for each image.
- Copy the text or download it as a .txt file.
Advantages
- Recognition in Spanish, English or both at once.
- Several images in a single pass.
- Confidence indicator per image.
- Free, no sign-up and unlimited use.
Technical details
Recognition uses tesseract.js (Tesseract with the LSTM engine compiled to WebAssembly, with a SIMD build when available). The tessdata best_int language data is downloaded the first time: about 2.1 MB for Spanish, 2.9 MB for English and 5 MB for both. All images are processed with the same engine and the text of each is returned with its average confidence (green from 80%, orange from 55%). Accepts JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, BMP, GIF and HEIC up to 30 MB. Accuracy depends on sharpness: printed, straight, high-contrast text gives the best results; handwriting is not recognized well.
Frequently asked questions
How do I copy text from an image?
Drag in the image, choose the language and extract the text. Then click copy or download it as a .txt.
Does it recognize handwriting?
Not reliably. It works very well with printed or on-screen text, but handwriting usually produces many errors.
