Compress image
Reduce file size with quality control and a before/after comparison
No database: AIMRAN doesn't store your files, text or results
What is Compress image?
Photos from your phone or camera often weigh several megabytes, which is a problem when you want to email them, upload them to a website or attach them to a form with a size limit. This tool reduces the size of your images while keeping them looking practically the same as the original.
You choose the quality with a slider, can cap the maximum size in pixels or set a target size in MB, and before downloading you see the result with a before/after slider. It works with one image or many at once.
How to use it
- Drag your images into the upload area, click to choose them or paste them with Ctrl+V.
- Adjust the quality and choose the output format: Original, JPG or WEBP.
- If needed, set a maximum side in pixels or turn on “Maximum size per image”.
- Click “Compress” and check the result with the before/after slider.
- Download each image separately or all of them together in a ZIP.
Advantages
- Before/after slider to check quality before downloading.
- Target size in MB, ideal for forms with an upload limit.
- Batch compression with a single ZIP download.
- Free, no sign-up, no watermarks and no ads.
Technical details
Compression uses the browser-image-compression library with a configurable starting quality between 10% and 100%. It accepts JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, BMP and HEIC/HEIF (up to 50 MB per file); HEIC files are first decoded to JPEG at quality 0.92. The output can keep the original format or be converted to JPEG or WEBP. The maximum side ranges from 0 to 4096 px in 64 px steps (0 keeps the resolution) and the target size from 0.1 to 10 MB: the algorithm lowers the quality iteratively until it reaches it. If, with the original format, the resulting file is not smaller than the starting one, the untouched original is returned so it doesn't get worse.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reduce a photo's file size without losing quality?
Use a quality between 70% and 85%: the difference is barely noticeable and the savings are usually large. Check the result with the before/after slider before downloading.
How do I compress an image to under 1 MB?
Turn on “Maximum size per image” and leave the target at 1 MB. The tool lowers the quality little by little until it gets close to that size. If that isn't enough, also reduce the maximum side.
Can I compress several images at once?
Yes. Add as many as you want; they are compressed with the same settings and you can download them in a single ZIP.
Why does my PNG barely get smaller?
PNG is a lossless format, so quality has little effect. To save much more, choose WEBP or JPG as the output format, or reduce the maximum side.
Can I compress iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes. HEIC or HEIF photos are converted automatically and compressed as JPG, or as WEBP if you choose that format.
