What is Convert audio?

This converter changes the format of your sound files so they open on any phone, computer or app: turn an iPhone M4A into an MP3, a bulky WAV into something lighter, or a FLAC into an MP3 for the car.

You can upload several files at once and convert them all in one go. It also accepts videos, so you can pull the audio out of an MP4 or MOV straight into the format you want.

How to use it

  2. Choose the output format: MP3, WAV, OGG Vorbis, OGG Opus, M4A (AAC) or FLAC.
  3. If the format supports it, pick the quality in kbps.
  4. Click Convert.

Technical details

Conversion uses ffmpeg, taking the first audio track and copying the metadata (-map_metadata 0). Output codecs: MP3 with LAME (96 to 320 kbps), 16-bit PCM WAV, OGG Vorbis with libvorbis (96 to 256 kbps), OGG Opus with libopus (32 to 192 kbps, at 48 kHz), M4A with AAC (96 to 320 kbps, with +faststart) and lossless FLAC. Accepts MP3, WAV, OGG, OGA, OPUS, M4A, AAC, FLAC, WMA, AIFF, AMR, WEBM and WEBA, plus MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, M4V and 3GP video, up to 300 MB per file. Converting from a lossy to a lossless format (for example, MP3 to FLAC) does not recover quality.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert M4A to MP3?

Upload the M4A file, choose MP3 as the format, select the quality (192 kbps is a good starting point) and click Convert.

Can I convert several audio files at once?

Yes. Upload all the files, choose the format and they are converted one after another. At the end you can download them in a ZIP.

Which audio format has the best quality?

WAV and FLAC lose no quality. Among compressed formats, Opus and AAC (M4A) sound better than MP3 at the same bitrate.

Does converting MP3 to WAV improve the quality?

No. The WAV will be larger, but the quality will be the same as the original MP3.

Can I extract the audio from a video?

Yes. Upload the video and choose the output audio format; its sound track will be extracted.
