What is Trim audio?

With this tool you keep only the part of an audio file you care about: the chorus of a song for a ringtone, a clip from an interview, or a voice note without the silence at the start and end.

You see the sound drawn as a waveform, select the section with your mouse or finger and, if you like, add a fade so it starts and ends smoothly.

How to use it

  1. Upload the audio you want to trim.
  2. Select the section on the waveform or type the start and end times.
  3. Optionally add a fade in and fade out.
  4. Choose the output format and quality.
  5. Click Trim and download the result.

Advantages

Technical details

Trimming is done with ffmpeg's atrim and asetpts filters with millisecond precision, and fades with afade (fade in from second 0 and fade out at the end of the clip, both from 0 to 10 s in 0.5 s steps). The clip is re-encoded to the chosen format: MP3, WAV, OGG Vorbis, OGG Opus, M4A (AAC) or FLAC, with the selected bitrate for lossy formats. The waveform is computed from the peaks of the decoded signal. Time fields accept minutes:seconds or seconds with decimals. Accepts audio and video up to 300 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cut a section out of a song?

Upload the song, drag across the waveform to mark the section (or type the start and end) and click Trim.

How do I make a ringtone from a song?

Trim about 20–30 seconds, add a 1–2 second fade in and fade out, and download it as MP3 or M4A.

Can I set the exact start and end time?

Yes. Type the times in the Start and End fields, for example 1:23.5 or 83.5 seconds.

Does the audio lose quality when trimmed?

It is re-encoded, so if you choose WAV or FLAC there is no additional loss. For MP3 or M4A, use a bitrate equal to or higher than the original.
