What is Trim video?

This tool lets you keep only the part of a video you care about: remove the first few seconds, cut the ending or pull a specific section out of a long recording.

You move the handles along the timeline, see exactly where you are and download the clip. You can choose a fast cut, which leaves the quality untouched, or a precise cut at the exact frame.

How to use it

  1. Upload the video you want to trim.
  2. Drag the timeline handles to mark the start and end.
  3. Choose the cut mode: Fast or Precise.
  4. Check the final length and click Trim video.
  5. Download the clip.

Advantages

Technical details

Fast mode uses ffmpeg with input seeking (-ss before -i), duration -t and stream copy (-c copy) with -avoid_negative_ts make_zero, so it does not re-encode or lose quality; in exchange, the start snaps to the nearest keyframe, which can shift the cut by a few seconds depending on the video's GOP interval. It keeps the container if it is MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV or AVI (others are output as MKV). Precise mode re-encodes to MP4 with H.264 (libx264, CRF 20, yuv420p) and AAC at 160 kb/s, so the cut is frame-accurate but takes longer. Times are handled with millisecond precision. Limit of 500 MB per file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cut the beginning of a video?

Upload the video, drag the start handle to where you want it to begin and click Trim video. You can leave the end as it is.

Why doesn't the fast cut start exactly where I marked?

Because it copies the video without re-encoding and can only start on a keyframe. If you need accuracy, use Precise mode.

Does trimming a video reduce its quality?

Not in Fast mode: the data is copied as is. In Precise mode it is re-encoded at high quality (CRF 20), with a loss that is hard to notice.

Can I trim videos from my phone?

Yes. It accepts the usual phone formats such as MP4, MOV and 3GP, up to 500 MB.
