What is Crop?

Cropping removes what you don't need from a photo or gives it the exact shape a social network asks for. Here you choose the format, move the frame over the image and download only the part you want.

There are formats ready for the most common posts: square, Instagram portrait, Stories, covers and thumbnails. With the cover formats, the image is also delivered at the exact pixel size each platform requires.

How to use it

  1. Drag in the image you want to crop.
  2. Choose a format: Free, 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 or a specific cover.
  3. Move the crop area by dragging it and resize it from the corners.
  4. Click “Crop” to see the result.
  5. Download the cropped image.

Advantages

Technical details

Cropping is pixel-accurate on the full-resolution image, with a minimum area of 8 px and the aspect ratio locked according to the preset: Free, 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9, YouTube banner (2560 × 1440), YouTube thumbnail (1280 × 720), Facebook cover (820 × 312), X header (1500 × 500) and LinkedIn (1584 × 396). For presets with an output size, the crop is rescaled to those dimensions with high-quality smoothing. EXIF orientation is respected and JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, BMP, GIF and HEIC up to 50 MB are accepted. The output keeps the original format (HEIC comes out as JPG) at quality 0.92 for lossy formats.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a photo for Instagram?

Choose 1:1 for square posts, 4:5 for portrait or 9:16 for Stories and Reels. Move the frame until it covers what you want and click “Crop”.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

1280 × 720 pixels, in a 16:9 ratio. With the “YouTube thumbnail” preset the image is delivered at exactly that size.

Can I crop to any dimensions?

Yes. With the “Free” format you can stretch the frame to any ratio from its corners.

Does an image lose quality when cropped?

The cropped area keeps its original pixels. It can only lose sharpness if you choose a cover preset and the cropped area is smaller than the final size, and in that case you are warned.
