Remove metadata

Remove EXIF data, including GPS location

No database: AIMRAN doesn't store your files, text or results

What is Remove metadata?

Photos taken with a phone store a lot of hidden information: the phone model, the exact date and time and even the GPS coordinates of where they were taken. If you share the image as is, anyone could see that data.

This tool shows you how much metadata each photo has, warns you if it includes a location and creates a clean copy without that information, ready to post or send.

How to use it

  1. Drag your photos into the upload area.
  2. Check in the list how much data each one has and whether it includes GPS location.
  3. Click “Remove metadata”.
  4. Download the cleaned photos one by one or in a ZIP.

Advantages

Technical details

The initial analysis uses exifr to count the EXIF, GPS, IFD0/IFD1, XMP and IPTC fields (the format structure and the ICC profile are not counted as personal data). For PNGs, the file is rewritten removing the tEXt, zTXt, iTXt, eXIf and tIME chunks, without recompressing the pixels. For other formats, the image is decoded with the EXIF orientation applied first and re-encoded in its original format at quality 0.95, which removes EXIF, GPS, XMP and IPTC; HEIC files are delivered as JPG. Accepts JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, BMP, GIF and HEIC up to 50 MB per file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove the location from a photo?

Add the photo, check whether the GPS warning appears and click to remove the metadata. The downloaded copy no longer contains coordinates.

What is a photo's EXIF data?

It is information the camera or phone stores inside the image: make and model, date, exposure settings and sometimes the GPS location.

Will the photo appear rotated after removing EXIF?

No. The stored orientation is applied before cleaning, so the photo looks the same as before in any viewer.

Do WhatsApp or social networks remove metadata?

Many do when compressing, but not all, and if you send the photo as a document it usually keeps it. Cleaning it beforehand is the safe way.
