What is Filters and adjustments?

You don't need editing software to improve a photo. With these adjustments you can brighten a dark image, add more color, turn it black and white or give it a warm or cool tone in seconds.

Every change shows up instantly on the photo, and when you finish you can compare the original with the result by dragging a slider. If you don't want to fiddle with controls, start with one of the preset filters.

How to use it

  1. Drag in the photo you want to edit.
  2. Try a quick filter: B&W, Sepia, Vivid, Warm, Cool or Soft.
  3. Fine-tune with the brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, sepia and blur sliders.
  4. Click “Apply filters” and compare before and after.
  5. Download the edited image.

Advantages

Technical details

Color adjustments are calculated pixel by pixel with the matrices from the W3C Filter Effects specification (the same ones CSS filters use): saturation and hue with luminance coefficients 0.213/0.715/0.072, grayscale with Rec. 709 weights and sepia; brightness and contrast are applied afterwards. Ranges: brightness, contrast and saturation from −100 to 100, hue from −180° to 180°, black and white and sepia from 0% to 100%. Blur approximates a Gaussian with three passes of separable box blur, with a radius proportional to the longer side. The preview is calculated on a 900 px copy and the final result at full resolution in a Web Worker. It is saved in the original format at quality 0.92; accepts images up to 40 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I brighten a dark photo?

Raise the brightness gradually and, if it looks flat, add some contrast. You will see the change instantly on the image.

How do I make a photo black and white?

Click the “B&W” filter or drag the “Black and white” slider to 100%. You can stop at an in-between value for a desaturated look.

Can I blur a whole image?

Yes, with the “Blur” slider. If you only want to blur part of it, such as a face or a license plate, use the Pixelate or blur tool.

Does the photo lose resolution when edited?

No. The preview uses a smaller copy for speed, but the final file is generated at the original resolution.
