What is Split PDF?

Sometimes a long PDF contains several different documents, or you only need to send part of it. This tool splits a PDF into several smaller files without touching its content.

You can enter the ranges you want, for example “1-3, 5, 8-10”, put each page into its own file or cut automatically every so many pages. The thumbnails are color-coded so you can see which pages go into each part before splitting.

How to use it

  1. Drag in the PDF you want to split.
  2. Choose the mode: “By ranges”, “Every page” or “Every N”.
  3. Type the ranges or the number of pages per file.
  4. Check how the parts look in the thumbnails and click “Split PDF”.
  5. Download each part or all of them together in a ZIP.

Advantages

Technical details

Each part is generated with pdf-lib by copying the original pages into a new document, without rasterizing. The range syntax accepts single pages and ranges separated by commas or semicolons (“1-3, 5, 8-10”) and open ranges such as “8-” (to the end), and it checks that the pages exist and that the start is not after the end. In “Every N” mode the last file contains the remaining pages. Files are named after the original and the range, for example document-p1-3.pdf. Accepts PDFs up to 200 MB; those with only owner restrictions are decrypted automatically.

Frequently asked questions

How do I separate the pages of a PDF?

Choose “Every page” and click “Split PDF”. You will get one file per page, which you can download as a ZIP.

How do I split a PDF into parts of several pages?

Use “Every N” and enter how many pages you want per file, or type the exact ranges in “By ranges”, for example “1-10, 11-20”.

What does “8-” mean in the ranges?

That the range starts on page 8 and runs to the last page of the document.

Does splitting a PDF reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, with their text, images and links intact.
