What is Merge PDF?

Combining several PDFs into a single document is really handy for sending an application with all its attachments, gathering a quarter's invoices or handing in a complete assignment as one file.

You add the PDFs, put them in the order you want by dragging and click a button. If you need more control, you can view all the individual pages to move them or remove the ones you don't need before merging.

How to use it

  1. Drag two or more PDF files in.
  2. Reorder them by dragging each file into position.
  3. To move or remove individual pages, turn on “Sort by pages”.
  4. Click “Merge PDF”.
  5. Download the merged document.

Advantages

Technical details

Merging is done with pdf-lib by copying each page's objects (content, fonts and images) into the new document, without rasterizing or recompressing, so the text stays selectable and the quality is identical to the originals. Consecutive pages from the same file are copied as a block to avoid duplicating shared resources, and the result is saved with object streams to reduce its size. PDFs that only have owner restrictions are decrypted automatically with qpdf; those that ask for a password to open must be unlocked first. Accepts files up to 200 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I combine several PDFs into one?

Add the files, put them in the right order and click “Merge PDF”. In a few seconds you will have a single document to download.

Can I change the page order when merging?

Yes. Turn on “Sort by pages” and you will see every page of every file so you can move or remove them one by one.

Does merging PDFs reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, without being turned into images, so text and images stay exactly the same.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

If the PDF asks for a password to open, remove it first with the “Protect and unlock” tool and then merge it.
