What is PDF to JPG/PNG?

Turning a PDF into images is useful for posting a page on social media, adding it to a presentation or sending it through a messaging app, where a picture displays better than a document.

Each page becomes a separate JPG or PNG image. You choose the resolution for the purpose, from 72 DPI for screens to 300 or more for printing, and you can convert the whole document or just a few pages.

How to use it

  1. Drag in the PDF.
  2. Choose the format: JPG or PNG (and the quality for JPG).
  3. Select the resolution: 72, 150, 300 DPI or “Other”.
  4. Choose all pages or just a range.
  5. Click “Convert” and download the images or the ZIP.

Advantages

Technical details

Pages are rendered with pdf.js at a scale of DPI/72 (one PDF point equals 1/72 of an inch), so an A4 page at 150 DPI gives about 1240 × 1754 px and at 300 DPI about 2480 × 3508 px. JPG supports quality from 30% to 100%; PNG is lossless and preserves fine text better. DPI can be set between 20 and 1200, with a limit of 16,384 px per side and 180 megapixels per page. Files are numbered with leading zeros (document-01.jpg) so they sort correctly. Accepts PDFs up to 200 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PDF to JPG?

Drag in the PDF, leave JPG as the format, choose the resolution and click “Convert to JPG”. You will get one image per page.

Which resolution should I choose: 72, 150 or 300 DPI?

72 DPI is enough for viewing on screen, 150 DPI is a good balance for sharing and 300 DPI is recommended for printing.

JPG or PNG?

JPG is smaller and works well for photos. PNG loses no quality and is better for text, charts and diagrams.

Can I convert just one page?

Yes. Choose “Range” and type the page number or a range like “2-4”.
