What is Video info?
This tool tells you what is inside a video file: how long it is, what resolution it has, how many frames per second it runs at and which image and sound formats it was recorded with.
It is useful for finding out why a video won't play on a device, checking whether it meets a platform's requirements or simply knowing a file's quality.
How to use it
- Upload the video you want to analyze.
- Wait a few seconds while the file is read.
- Check the data in the General, Video and Audio sections.
- Click Copy all if you want to paste the report somewhere else.
Advantages
- Container, video and audio data in a single view.
- Detects rotation and shows the size it actually displays at.
- Shows whether there are several audio tracks.
- Copyable text report with one click.
Technical details
The analysis is based on the output of ffmpeg -i. It shows the container, size in bytes, duration to the hundredth of a second and overall bitrate; for video, the codec with its profile (H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP8, VP9, AV1, MPEG-4 Part 2, Apple ProRes…), the encoded resolution, rotation and visible resolution, fps to up to three decimals, the pixel format (for example yuv420p) and the bitrate; for audio, the codec (AAC, MP3, Opus, Vorbis, FLAC, AC-3, E-AC-3, PCM), sample rate, channels, bitrate and number of tracks. Values the file does not declare are not shown. Accepts files up to 500 MB.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out a video's codec?
Upload the video and look at the Video section: the Codec field shows, for example, H.264/AVC or H.265/HEVC, along with its profile.
How do I check a video's resolution and fps?
They appear in the Video section, in the Resolution and Frames per second fields.
Why won't my video play?
Often it is the codec. If you see HEVC, ProRes or AV1, some devices don't support it; convert it to MP4 with H.264.
What is a video's bitrate?
The amount of data per second, in kb/s. With the same codec and resolution, a higher bitrate usually means higher quality and a larger file.
