Edit metadata

Title, author, subject and keywords

No database: AIMRAN doesn't store your files, text or results

What is Edit metadata?

Besides its content, a PDF stores internal information: the title shown on the tab when you open it, the author, the program it was created with and the dates. Sometimes that data is empty, wrong or reveals more than you want.

With this tool you see all those properties and edit or delete them in a moment. It helps the document look professional, improves how it appears in search engines or removes the author's name before you share it.

How to use it

  1. Drag in the PDF.
  2. Review the document's current properties.
  3. Edit the title, author, subject, keywords, application or dates.
  4. Use “Clear all” if you want to delete all the data.
  5. Click “Save metadata” and download the PDF.

Advantages

Technical details

Editing works on the PDF's Info dictionary with pdf-lib: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator (source application), Producer, CreationDate and ModDate, the last two with date and time. Fields left empty are removed from the dictionary. Since some readers give priority to the catalog's XMP metadata stream, it is removed so the edited values are always shown. Page content is not touched. Accepts PDFs up to 200 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change a PDF's title?

Open the PDF, type the new title in the “Title” field and save. It is the name many readers and search engines show instead of the file name.

How do I remove the author from a PDF?

Clear the “Author” field or click “Clear all” to remove every property, then save the metadata.

Does PDF metadata affect Google?

Yes. Google may use the PDF's title as the search result title, so it is worth making it descriptive.

Can I change a PDF's creation date?

Yes. The creation and modification dates can be edited with day, month, year and time.
