View metadata
Check camera, date, GPS and technical details
No database: AIMRAN doesn't store your files, text or results
What is View metadata?
Which camera took this photo? When? Where? Many images carry that information inside them without it being visible at first glance. This tool brings it to light and shows it to you neatly organized.
At the top you get a clear summary with the camera, lens, date, exposure settings and dimensions. If the photo has GPS coordinates, you can open the exact spot on a map. Below, all the technical fields appear grouped.
How to use it
- Drag in the photo you want to analyze.
- Check the summary: camera, lens, date, exposure and dimensions.
- If it has a location, click “View on OpenStreetMap”.
- Review the details of each metadata group or copy everything as JSON.
Advantages
- Readable summary of the essentials with full technical detail below.
- GPS location with a direct link to the map.
- Export all fields as JSON.
- Also supports TIFF and files up to 100 MB.
Technical details
Reading is done with exifr, which parses the TIFF/IFD0, EXIF, GPS, IFD1 (thumbnail), Interoperability, XMP, IPTC, ICC color profile and JFIF segments and the PNG IHDR header, plus maker notes when present. Keys and values are translated into readable names and dates are displayed in the page language's format. Coordinates are converted to decimal degrees and linked to OpenStreetMap. Accepts JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP and GIF up to 100 MB; formats without metadata simply show that there is no data.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out where a photo was taken?
If the photo still has GPS data, it appears in the summary with a link to view it on the map. If it was shared through social media or messaging apps, that data has usually been removed already.
How do I see which camera or phone took a photo?
Drag in the image and look at the “Camera” field in the summary. You will also see the lens and exposure settings if they are stored.
Why doesn't my photo have any metadata?
Many apps and social networks remove it when compressing, and screenshots or edited images usually carry very little.
Can I export the metadata?
Yes, the “Copy as JSON” button copies all the fields, grouped.
