What is Crop margins?

Many PDFs have huge white margins that make the text look tiny on a phone, an e-reader or a projector. By cropping them, the content fills the whole screen and is much easier to read.

You adjust each margin with a slider or click a button so the tool detects on its own where the white space ends. You see the cropped area on the page before applying the change.

How to use it

  1. Drag in the PDF.
  2. Click “Detect blank margins” or adjust top, bottom, left and right in millimeters.
  3. Check the area in the page preview.
  4. Choose whether to apply it to all pages or only the current one.
  5. Click “Crop PDF” and download it.

Advantages

Technical details

Cropping redefines each page's MediaBox, CropBox, TrimBox, BleedBox and ArtBox with pdf-lib, calculated in visual space and respecting its rotation. Content is not deleted or rasterized: it simply falls outside the visible area, so the text stays selectable and the file size barely changes. Each margin can be set from 0 to 45% of the page dimension in 0.5 mm steps. Automatic detection renders the page and looks for pixels with any channel below 235, leaving a 1% buffer. If the crop would leave an area smaller than 10 points, the tool prevents it. Accepts PDFs up to 200 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove white margins from a PDF?

Open the PDF, click “Detect blank margins” and then “Crop PDF”. If you like, adjust each side by hand first.

Is the content outside the crop deleted?

No. It is only hidden by changing the page's visible area; the content is still inside the file.

Can I crop just one page?

Yes. Under “Apply to” choose “Current page only” instead of “All pages”.

Why crop the margins of a PDF?

To read it better on a phone, tablet or e-reader, to tidy up scanned documents with dark edges or to prepare pages before printing.
