What is Rotate and flip?

Did you record a video on your phone and it shows up sideways or upside down? With this tool you rotate it so it plays the right way up in any player.

You can also flip it like a mirror, horizontally or vertically. Before processing you see a preview of the result on a frame from the video.

How to use it

Upload the video that is rotated.
Choose the rotation (0°, 90°, 180° or 270°) or use the Left and Right buttons.
Turn on Flip horizontal or vertical if you need it.
Check the preview and final size, and click Apply.
Download the corrected video.

Technical details

Rotation is applied to the pixels with ffmpeg's transpose filters (transpose=1 for 90° clockwise and transpose=2 for 270°) and hflip/vflip for 180° and flips. The stream's rotation tag is removed (rotate=0) so no player applies it twice. Output is MP4 with H.264 (libx264, CRF 20, yuv420p) and AAC at 160 kb/s, with even dimensions and +faststart. With 90° and 270° rotations, width and height are swapped. Limit of 500 MB per file.

How do I rotate a sideways video?

Upload the video, click Right or Left until the preview looks straight and click Apply.

What is the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the image around its center. Flipping mirrors it, left to right (horizontal) or top to bottom (vertical).

Will the rotated video display correctly on WhatsApp or a TV?

Yes. The rotation is applied to the image itself, not as a flag that some players ignore.

Does rotating a video reduce its quality?

It has to be re-encoded, but this is done at high quality (CRF 20), so the difference is minimal.
